The Grand Imam of Ahmed Al‑Tayeb has expressed strong solidarity with the people of Lebanon, reaching out directly to the country’s president in a gesture of unity during a difficult period for the nation.
According to reports, the head of Al‑Azhar, widely regarded as the leading center of Sunni Islamic scholarship, held a phone conversation with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun to inquire about the situation in Lebanon and to convey heartfelt support to the Lebanese people.
During the call, Al-Tayeb assured Aoun that the historic Islamic institution stands firmly with Lebanon and continues to pray for peace, stability, and relief for citizens facing hardship.

President Aoun expressed gratitude for the outreach, describing the gesture as a powerful sign of solidarity at a time when the Lebanese people are seeking encouragement from their regional and international partners.
Relations between Al-Azhar and Lebanon have deep roots. In previous engagements, Lebanese leaders have invited the Grand Imam to strengthen educational and religious cooperation, including plans to establish an Al-Azhar institute in Beirut aimed at promoting moderation, coexistence, and religious dialogue.
