SOKOTO, Nigeria A leading opposition figure, Ambassador Faruk Malami Yabo, has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of undermining Nigeria’s democracy through political infiltration, suppression of opposition parties, and attempts to impose a "one-party dominance" across the country.
The former diplomat, who recently secured his party’s Senatorial ticket for the 2027 elections, spoke to journalists in Sokoto after receiving widespread endorsements. He claimed citizens are increasingly dissatisfied with the APC-led government’s performance on security, agriculture, education, healthcare, and infrastructure.
Yabo praised former Sokoto State Governor Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal for stepping down in his favour, calling it an act of rare statesmanship. He also explained his 2023 defection from the APC to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as ideology-driven, not ambition.

He further alleged that the APC has failed the nation, saying, “Security has deteriorated, agricultural gains reversed, and public healthcare is in serious difficulty.” Yabo noted that a new opposition coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is emerging to defend multiparty democracy.
“Democracy thrives when parties compete freely. What we are seeing infiltration and destabilization is dangerous,” he warned, urging Nigerians to remain vigilant ahead of the 2027 elections.
