Eid-el-Kabir: FG Declares May 27, 28 as Public Holidays for Spiritual Observance

The Federal Government has officially declared Wednesday, May 27, and Thursday, May 28, 2026, as public holidays in commemoration of this year’s Eid-el-Kabir celebration.

The announcement was made on Monday by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, through a statement issued by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani.

According to the statement, the declaration underscores the Federal Government’s recognition of the religious and spiritual values of Nigerian Muslims, who will be observing the festival alongside the global Islamic community.

Tunji-Ojo extended his congratulations to Muslim faithful both in Nigeria and abroad, describing Eid-ul-Adha as a festival rich in spiritual meaning symbolizing sacrifice, obedience to God, and compassion toward humanity.

He encouraged Nigerians to leverage the holiday period for prayers and deep reflection, seeking divine guidance for the nation’s peace, security, and prosperity.

“The Federal Government urges all Nigerians to use this period for prayer and sober reflection, asking for divine guidance upon the country as it continues its pursuit of peace, security, and prosperity for every citizen,” the statement read.

The minister also called on citizens to embrace brotherhood, unity, and peaceful coexistence during the celebration. He wished Muslims across the country a peaceful, blessed, and joyous Eid-ul-Adha.
