The Federal Government has officially declared Wednesday, May 27, and Thursday, May 28, 2026, as public holidays in commemoration of this year’s Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
The announcement was made on Monday by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, through a statement issued by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani.
According to the statement, the declaration underscores the Federal Government’s recognition of the religious and spiritual values of Nigerian Muslims, who will be observing the festival alongside the global Islamic community.
Tunji-Ojo extended his congratulations to Muslim faithful both in Nigeria and abroad, describing Eid-ul-Adha as a festival rich in spiritual meaning symbolizing sacrifice, obedience to God, and compassion toward humanity.
