Former Nigerian Head of State General Yakubu Gowon visited President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Saturday, saying he wanted to express his support for the current administration’s work and offer encouragement on ongoing national challenges.
After meeting with President Tinubu, Gowon told reporters that he believes the government is doing its best across multiple sectors, including political, economic and social areas. He acknowledged that Nigeria faces significant security problems but said the president was working to address them for the benefit of all Nigerians.

He added that there was “no particular place” in which the president should focus exclusively, describing Tinubu as looking after Nigeria’s interests “in all areas.”
Gowon, who led Nigeria as head of state from 1966 to 1975 and remains a respected elder statesman, highlighted the government’s efforts to tackle security challenges facing the country. He said he was satisfied with how the administration was handling those issues, and that his visit was meant to show appreciation and encouragement.
