Nigeria’s ‘Papa Ajasco’ Actor Abiodun Ayoyinka Opens Up About Financial Struggles

BY UCHECHI OKPORIE

Veteran Nigerian actor Abiodun Ayoyinka, widely recognised for portraying the comic character in the popular television series Papa Ajasco and Company, has revealed that he is facing significant financial and career challenges despite decades of fame.

Speaking in a recent interview with online personality Lucky Udu, the actor explained that the “Papa Ajasco” character is legally registered by its production company, which limits his ability to use the persona for advertisements, endorsements, or other commercial opportunities.

Ayoyinka said many companies approach him because of the character’s popularity but often expect him to appear fully as “Papa Ajasco,” something he cannot do without permission from the rights holders. The restriction, he said, has prevented him from taking advantage of opportunities linked to the role that made him famous.

The actor also revealed that life has been difficult since retiring about five years ago from his job with the Lagos State Council for Arts and Culture. According to him, he does not own a house or a car and has struggled financially in recent years.

The sitcom, created by veteran producer Wale Adenuga, has been one of Nigeria’s most recognisable comedy shows since the 1990s and was widely watched across Africa, making the character of Papa Ajasco a household name.

Nwoko, Okowa, Ochei: Three Political Heavyweights as Delta North Weighs Options Ahead of 2027

As political momentum gradually builds toward 2027, attention in Delta North Senatorial District is once again turning to familiar and formidable names: Victor Ochei, Ned Nwoko, and Ifeanyi Okowa. Each man brings a distinct résumé, a different political temperament, and a unique claim to experience as the Anioma zone weighs its next representative at the federal level. Delta North, one of three senatorial districts in Delta State, occupies a strategic space within the politics of Nigeria. The district has historically produced influential lawmakers, and its Senate seat carries weight not only in constituency development but also in shaping debates at the National Assembly. With that backdrop, the emerging contest is less about visibility and more about capacity, depth, and political direction.
