The African Union (AU) has strongly condemned the recent deadly bombings in Maiduguri, northeastern Nigeria, describing the attacks as heinous acts of terrorism and calling for increased global support to help the country combat violent extremist.
The coordinated explosions, which struck key civilian locations in Borno State’s capital, left dozens dead and many others injured, marking one of the most serious security breaches in the city in recent years.
In a statement, AU Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Youssouf denounced the attacks and expressed solidarity with the Nigerian government and people, while emphasizing the urgent need for stronger international cooperation to defeat terrorist groups operating in the region.

The AU warned that the resurgence of such attacks highlights the persistent threat posed by extremist groups like Boko Haram and ISWAP, whose activities continue to destabilize not only Nigeria but the wider Lake Chad region.
Reaffirming its commitment to regional security, the continental body urged the global community to step up intelligence sharing, security assistance, and humanitarian support to bolster Nigeria’s ongoing counterterrorism efforts.
The Maiduguri bombings have also renewed concerns about a possible resurgence of insurgent violence in northeastern Nigeria, despite years of military operations aimed at restoring stability.
