Major Nigerian Opposition Figures Meet in Strategic Closed-Door Talks in Abuja Ahead of 2027 Elections

Top opposition leaders from Nigeria’s major political parties converged for high-level closed-door discussions at the Abuja residence of former Senate President Senator David Mark, in what political observers are calling a major strategic meeting ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Representatives from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) gathered Wednesday evening as details of the agenda remained undisclosed.

The meeting brought together several influential political figures, signaling possible negotiations on alliances or cooperation among opposition forces.

Among those present were former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, and senior members of both parties.

ADC leadership was represented under the coordination of David Mark, with PDP stakeholders led by factional chairman Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN).

Former governors and national leaders such as Rotimi Amaechi, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Aminu Tambuwal, Peter Obi and Babangida Aliyu were also seen entering the meeting venue, underlining the scale and importance of the gathering.

Senior party officials including elder statesman Jerry Gana, ADC’s National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi, and PDP’s factional National Secretary Taofeeq Arapaja attended, highlighting the broad representation from both political forces.

Although no official statements had been released by press time, political analysts say the convergence reflects a growing momentum among opposition leaders under pressure to close ranks and present a unified front against the incumbent government in the upcoming elections.
