Ghana’s President John Dramani Mahama was accorded a full state welcome with military honours in Paris, France, on Wednesday, April 8, ahead of high-level bilateral discussions with French President Emmanuel Macron.
The ceremonial reception took place at the historic Les Invalides, underscoring the enduring diplomatic ties between Accra and Paris.
The official welcome featured military precision and ceremonial honours, reflecting the importance of the visit as Ghana seeks to strengthen cooperation with France across economic, security and development partnerships.
Earlier during his visit, Mahama met with the President of the French Senate, Gérard Larcher, engaging in discussions on enhancing trade and investment links, expanding regional security cooperation, and deepening joint efforts against terrorism.

Across parts of Africa, a troubling pattern has emerged: periodic waves of hostility directed at Nigerians living and working in other African countries. The rhetoric is familiar—“they should go back home.” But beneath that language lies a far more complex and uncomfortable reality than simple dislike of a nationality. This moment is not just about Nigerians; it is about economics, identity, governance failure, and the unfinished project of African unity.
