Ghana Sets Ambitious Target to Become West Africa’s Manufacturing Powerhouse

Ghana’s government has announced a major push to position the country as the leading manufacturing hub in West Africa, calling on industry leaders and investors to take advantage of the nation’s strategic location, growing skilled workforce, and access to regional markets.

The Chief of Staff said Ghana must now “move from talking to taking action,” stressing that expanding manufacturing and value-addition is essential for boosting exports, creating jobs, and strengthening the country’s economic resilience.

Speaking at a high-level business forum, officials highlighted opportunities in agro-processing, automotive assembly, textiles, pharmaceuticals, and light industry.

They emphasized that Ghana’s participation in the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) gives it a competitive edge for producing goods that can reach more than one billion consumers across Africa.

Government leaders expressed commitment to improving infrastructure, reducing bottlenecks, and strengthening policies that will attract long-term industrial investment.

Business leaders at the forum said Ghana’s stability and investment climate make it a strong candidate to become the region’s next manufacturing centre — but stressed that consistent policy implementation will be key.
