A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ayiri Emami, has publicly rejected what he described as attempts to impose political candidates in Delta South, insisting that the party must either reach full consensus or conduct competitive primaries.
In a 51-second video circulating online, Emami was seen dancing to music while making the remarks, which appeared to address ongoing internal party disagreements over candidate selection ahead of the 2027 elections.
Speaking in the video, the APC figure emphasized that no individual or group should unilaterally decide candidates for the senatorial district.
“You can't impose candidate on us in Delta South. My senatorial district, you can't impose candidates on us. I'm the one saying it. If it's consensus, all of us must agree.
"We all will agree or we go to the field for primaries. Who's more popular should take it. Politics is not easy. Whatever you see you take it.

"Even in my local government, I've not heard what they are saying. I know we've not done consensus. We will go to the field.”
The remarks come amid growing political maneuvering within the All Progressives Congress in Delta State, where stakeholders are reportedly divided over the mode of selecting candidates for key positions.
Delta South senatorial district, which covers several local government areas including parts of Warri, has historically been a politically competitive zone, often shaped by negotiations among party leaders and influential figures.
Emami’s comments highlight ongoing tensions within party structures over whether to adopt consensus arrangements or open primaries, a recurring debate in Nigerian party politics.
He insisted that legitimacy must come through broad agreement or direct electoral contest, rather than imposition.

The battle for the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket in Delta South Senatorial District is shaping up to be less of a routine primary and more of a political civil war.
