President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Shu’aibu Shehu Aliyu as the new Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF), while also renewing the tenure of Sule Ahmed Abdulaziz as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).
The announcement, contained in a State House press release issued on April 2, 2026, stated that both appointments take immediate effect.
Professor Aliyu succeeds Ahmed Galadima Aminu, who recently stepped down to pursue political ambitions ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Adamawa State.
Prior to his new role, Aliyu served as Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-Formal Education.
Described as a seasoned academic and administrator, Aliyu is expected to leverage his experience in education and institutional leadership to strengthen the PTDF’s mandate.
The presidency noted that his appointment reflects a broader effort to enhance capacity development, innovation, and strategic support within Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.

Meanwhile, the renewal of Abdulaziz’s tenure follows what the presidency described as a comprehensive evaluation of his performance.
Under his leadership, the TCN has reportedly achieved improvements in grid stability, expanded transmission capacity, and advanced system modernization efforts.
Abdulaziz, who brings over 30 years of experience in the power sector, has also played a significant role in regional electricity collaboration through his involvement with the West African Power Pool (WAPP).
President Tinubu urged both appointees to carry out their responsibilities with diligence, integrity, and commitment to national service, aligning their efforts with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The statement was signed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
