In a bold show of grassroots engagement, Governor Hyacinth Alia has launched a one-day free meal programme for residents of Makurdi, offering relief to hundreds amid prevailing economic pressures.
The initiative, held at popular dining spots Kilimanjaro and Amala Spot along Iyorchia-Ayu Road, transformed the area into a hub of activity as long queues of residents gathered to receive complimentary meals.
For many, it was more than just food, it was a moment of connection and shared community experience.
According to officials within the governor’s office, the programme is not merely a charitable gesture but part of a broader policy direction aimed at cushioning economic hardship while simultaneously supporting local enterprises.
A spokesperson emphasized that the administration is committed to people-centered governance. “Governor Alia believes strongly in giving back to the people while also creating opportunities for businesses to thrive through strategic patronage,” the official stated.
By partnering with established eateries, the government ensured that the intervention also stimulated commercial activity, reinforcing a dual-impact approach, social relief and economic circulation.
