Nigeria’s police authorities have dismissed a viral message circulating on social media that warned of an alleged terror attack in Abuja, describing it as false and deliberately misleading.
According to the Force Headquarters, the alarm was traced to a single individual who circulated the message, causing fear among residents of the capital.
Police said the suspect has been arrested and is now in custody for incitement and spreading false information.

Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Placid, stated that security agencies have not issued any terror alert and urged the public to ignore unverified messages, which often trigger unnecessary panic.
He added that the police and other security services continue to monitor the situation nationwide and maintain routine security operations.
The authorities also advised the public to rely on official communication channels for credible information and warned that individuals who spread false security alerts will face prosecution.
