Tension is rising in the Ga State after the Ga Traditional Council urgently notified the Ghana Police Service about what it calls an “unauthorised and illegal” installation of a chief in the capital.
According to the Council, a rival faction carried out the ceremony without clearance from recognised traditional authorities, violating established succession procedures. Officials say the move threatens public safety and could trigger a wider dispute if not swiftly contained.
Police confirm they have received the complaint and have deployed officers to monitor potential flashpoints across the affected communities.

The Ga State one of Ghana’s most influential traditional jurisdictions has faced recurring disagreements over chieftaincy succession, and analysts warn the latest incident could escalate if not handled carefully.
The Council has not publicly named the individual allegedly installed, but insiders say the contested stool has been at the centre of long-running family and legal tensions.
Security observers say authorities must move quickly to avoid a repeat of past chieftaincy-related clashes elsewhere in the country.

Across parts of Africa, a troubling pattern has emerged: periodic waves of hostility directed at Nigerians living and working in other African countries. In South Africa, it has manifested in violent xenophobic attacks; in Ghana, tensions have surfaced through business closures and regulatory crackdowns. The rhetoric is familiar—“they should go back home.” But beneath that language lies a far more complex and uncomfortable reality than simple dislike of a nationality. This moment is not just about Nigerians; it is about economics, identity, governance failure, and the unfinished project of African unity.
