Wike Reveals G5’s Move to Cut Atiku’s Votes

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has explained the political strategy used by the G5 governors during the 2023 presidential election, saying the move was aimed at reducing the influence and votes of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar.

Wike made this known while speaking to journalists in Abuja on Wednesday. He described as fake the story spreading on social media that the G5 governors rigged the election in favour of President Bola Tinubu.

According to Wike, the G5 governors adopted a strategy that would give them more political advantage in some parts of the South-South. He said the group extended the strategy by supporting Peter Obi in some areas, with the aim of reducing the votes Atiku could get.

The minister also questioned claims that the election was rigged, saying people could not look at results from just 300 polling units and use them to conclude what happened across the entire election.

Wike maintained that the G5 governors were playing a political game against Atiku and that their actions should not be described as an attempt to rig the presidential election.
