Mary Ojo, a resident of Ikorodu, Lagos State, has raised concerns about political intimidation and pressure on Nigerians to support particular candidates ahead of elections.
Speaking to Next Africa Daily on November 1, Ojo questioned why politicians elected by the people would turn around to dictate who citizens should vote for.
She said democracy gives citizens the freedom to choose their preferred candidates and exercise their voting rights without intimidation or pressure.
According to her, the situation is becoming concerning, as citizens are made to feel that they must support a particular presidential candidate simply because their state governor or political leaders support that candidate.

She also questioned why several political leaders, including those belonging to different political parties, appear to be moving towards supporting the same presidential candidate. She believes Nigerians should ask questions about the interests and arrangements behind these political movements.
Ojo advised Nigerians not to allow anyone to threaten or intimidate them because of their political choices. She stressed that every eligible voter has the right to decide who deserves their vote.
She further maintained that politicians are elected by the people and should not turn around to dictate how those same people should vote.
